Table of Contents Character/suspects Purpose of chapter/important events Clues/evidence Which detective elements are present Quotes to support this

Characters/suspects Sherlock Holmes: Is a detective that is very observant. Notices things that the usual eye cannot see. Dr. Mortimer: Is a highly respected doctor that worked with the Baskervilles. Sir Charles Baskerville: A rich man who has only been in the Baskerville Hall for two years before his sudden death occurred. He was strong minded, sir, shrewd, practical and unimaginative. Hugo Baskerville: He was consider a mean and heartless man among his peers. He had three sons and a daughter.

Events Dr. James Mortimer reads a manuscript that tell us that Sir Charles Baskerville died of a sudden tragic death three months ago. In Sir Henry Baskerville is the next person to take over the house. Dr. Mortimer tells Holmes that Baskerville had bad anxiety and nerve problems.

Events Continued… Dr. Mortimer tells Holmes that one time when he went to Sir Charles’s house he looked over his shoulder and was scared because he saw something odd. Mr. Barrymore said that he didn’t see any footsteps but Dr. Mortimer saw some that were “clearly marked” in the dirt. Dr. Mortimer didn’t want to make it public because he didn’t want to scare off the next people that were going to live there.

Quotes Mr. Holmes talks about Sir Charles’s death, he says “The circumstances connected with the death of Sir Charles have not been entirely cleared up, but just enough has been done to expose the rumors.” He also says “There is no reason to suspect ‘foul play’, or to imagine the death could be from natural causes.
