 A community is where a group of people live and work together in the same place.  We belong to many different communities  School, work, your family, etc.  People everywhere belong to communities whether they are big or small Slide Menu

 A citizen has responsibilities and rules to follow  A rule tells the people what they can and cannot do  Everyone that belongs to the community is a citizen and must follow the rules set in place Slide Menu

 Rules need to be fair if they are going to be put in place.  Fair means the rule is right and honest  Rules should keep the community safe and peaceful  Along with following rules citizens have responsibilities to keep their community a safe, clean, and good place. Slide Menu

 Many people are part of different groups such as your family, a team, your school, or your community.  In each of your groups or communities you may have a different role.  A role is your part in the group Slide Menu

 Within our community we live in a neighborhood  Neighborhoods can include a school, grocery store, a park, a bank, or etc.  We can see and learn about different neighborhoods by looking at a map.  A map shows where places are or located at to find our way from one place to another. Slide Menu

 We live in neighborhoods that are part of a city, borough, or town.  A city is a very large town  We live in the city of Lebanon  A suburb is a community near a large city Slide Menu

 The cities, towns, and other smaller communities create a state  We live in the state of Pennsylvania  Even bigger than the city or state is the country. The country is made up of the 50 states.  A country has its own people and rules  We live in the United States of America  We are a citizen of all of these communities Slide Menu

 People and places change over time.  We get older  Grow bigger  Families change  Technology changes Slide Menu

 People in the community work together to meet their needs  Something they must have to live  Food, clothing, a place to live  People also have wants  Something they would like to have, but do not need  Toys, games, movies  People cannot have everything they want Slide Menu
