Global Hawk CPL Data Products cpl.gsfc.nasa.gov/attrex_2013/attrex13_enter.htm Outline of CPL Data Products: Global Hawk flights are broken up into ~ 6 hr segments for processing, with two large binary files created for each seg: Products produced from the NRB (normalized relative backscatter) binary file (within ~60 hours of landing): 1.Curtain plots of attenuated backscatter for full segment 2.Curtain plots of att. backscatter for each 30-minute slice 3.Layer boundaries for PBL, elevated aerosol layers, clouds 4. Depolarization ratio profiles (1064 nm) for ice/water phase Products produced from the OP (optical properties) binary file (usually after the mission is over): 1.layer optical depth and column tot. (aerosol, cloud, total) 2.layer extinction-to-backscatter ratio (lidar ratio) used 3.extinction profiles inside identified layers 4.particulate backscatter profiles corrected for attenuation 5.Plots of extinction and optical depth for each 30-min. slice

Global Hawk CPL Data Products cpl.gsfc.nasa.gov/attrex_2013/attrex13_enter.htm Status of Data Products for ATTREX_13:  Data processing is complete, with images and text files available on the web.  The NRB and OP binary files containing backscatter profiles, layer locations, and optical properties can be ordered from the web (at the bottom of each flight segment page).  Starting with the 2014 deployment, conversion of the binary files to HDF is planned.  Data products are 1 second averages (~170 m horiz. X 30 m vertical) produced from the raw 10 hertz data.

Global Hawk CPL Instrument and Real-time Product Status 1.CPL produced high-quality data sets during 9 Global Hawk flights for HS3 in August-September An electronic issue with the laser developed during the transit back to Dryden. Because of the furlough, the instrument did not arrive at Goddard until Oct. 21. Matt and Andrew believe they know the issue. Timing will be tight to get it shipped back to Dryden by Nov 12. Andrew will keep Dave F. updated. 3.During a flight, we will save (and transfer to MTS) a real-time image once every 5 minutes, which more than covers the time span in one image. During focus periods, we can increase that rate down to 1 minute. During time periods with Iridium coverage only, a signal profile plot will be generated (~ every 1-30 minutes).

Global Hawk CPL Instrument and Real-time Product Status Examples of real-time displays: With Ku Without Ku

Global Hawk CPL Questions 1.How soon out of Guam can the CPL laser be turned on? 2.What are the laser restrictions in the COA for CPL operation in the western Pacific? Same as eastern Pacific? 3.Are there any Ku band coverage issues in the Pacific Ocean regions we will be flying?

At the eastern end of the coincidence, the two aircraft are ~6 minutes apart, improving to 0 minutes apart at the western end. The whole segment is useful for comparison.
