TSG-X Status Inter-Technologies interworking is almost complete –X.S0028-A (WLAN-cdma2000 Interworking) is published –X.P0057 (LTE-eHRPD Interworking) in V&V –X.P0058 (WiMAX-HRPD Interworking) in V&V X.S0011 Family Documents (HRPD and 1x Packet Data Network Specifications) –X.S0011-D V2.0 is approved for publication –X.S0011-E is in working progress –X.S0047 (MIPv6 enhancements) is in V&V –X.S0061 (PMIP Support) is in V&V –X.S0044 ( MIPv4 enhancements) is on hold (lack of enough ballot votes) Femto Network Specifications –X.S (Femto Network Architecture) in working progress –X.S (Femto Packet Data Network Specifications) in working progress –X.S (1x Femto specifications) in working progress

X.S0011 Family (Not Exhaustive) (HRPD/1x Packet Data Network Specifications) X.S0011 Family X.S0011-A X.S0011-B X.S0011-C X.S0011-D X.S0011-E Alt PPP (X.S0040) MIPv4 Enhance (X.P0044) MIPv6 Enhance (X.P0047) PMIP X.S0060 (HRPD Emergency) Working Progress or New Spec NFCC X.P0043 Inter-PDSN FHO In V&V Published Multi IP Connections? (e.g., Multi LMAs)

Other Specifications (Not Exhaustive) Other Specifications X.S0028 (WLAN-cdma IW) X.S0028-A (WLAN-cdma IW) X.S0057 eHRPD & (eHRPD-LTE IW) X.S0058 HRPD-WiMAX IW) X.S0054 (CAN) In V&V Published X.S0034 (GPRS/cdma Roaming) X.S0054-A (CAN) X.P0059 (Femto) Working Progress X.S0022-A (BSMCS) X.S0024 (IP based location) Note: Most of MMD specifications are not listed.

Approved new features: –Additional PPP authentication –NCP inactivity timer –Network Mobility (NEMO) support Other new features based on operator input: –Network initiated QoS support –EAP-AKA/TLS/TTLS support –IP service authorization –Any other features? X.S0011-E Features

Work Items on Hold There are a few work items are on hold due to prioritization: –NFCC (Network Firewall Configuration and Control) Benefit: –For some applications, a user may wish to open an inbound pinhole in a carrier's firewall –Network can control to the pinhole setup Current Status: –Architecture is completed – Adopted IETF NSIS for signaling with 3GPP2 extension objects to the IETF NAT/FW signaling layer Work needs to be done: –Resynchronize with IETF NSIS RFC the latest changes. –Reconsidering the protocol: »NSIS + 3GPP2 extensions, »UPNP + 3GPP2 extensions, or »a lightweight 3GPP2 specific protocol –MIPv4 Enhancements Benefit: –Support dynamic HA assignment –Support both RADIUS and Diameter Was in V&V and lack of ballot votes Two issues are left open: –Key derivations –Diameter Issue Recommendation: Complete these projects

Other Potential Work Items Interworking next release (Including LTE, WLAN, WiMAX to HRPD/1x Interworking) Femto next release Inter-PDSN fast handoff Enable all services in HRPD BCMCS enhancements IMS Centralized Services/Multimedia Session Continuity (ICS/MMSC) Multimedia priority Network Support for access technology specific aspects MMD and PDS updates

Cross Technologies Interworking Next Release WLAN-cdma2000 interworking –PMIP support –Fast handoff between PDSN and PDIF for CMIP/PMIP LTE-eHRPD interworking –DSMIPv6/CMIP support LTE-cdma1x interworking –CSFB (Circuit Services Fall Back) –VCC (Voice Continuity) WiMAX-HRPD interworking –MIPv6 support

Femto Next Release Enable flatter architecture for femto network –Benefit: Reduce network cost Support for white space ad hoc deployment (USA) HRPD Femto Split PDSN specification –Move some functions of PDSN to the FAP –Already in the work plan Backhaul optimization for Femto BCMCS support

Inter-PDSN Fast Handoff Support for inter-PDSN context transfer and data forwarding Benefit: –Some operators may have multiple administration domains, each served by one or more PDSNs. They may not want to have meshed IP connections among PDSNs and PCFs across administration domains. –As data usage increases, inter-PDSN handoff may occur more often. In this case, it would be good to avoid PPP renegotiation for inter-PDSN handoff. –The real time services may require inter-PDSN seamless handoff

Enable All Services in HRPD Migrate all services that are currently relying on 1x in HRPD: –Emergency Alert, SMS, Emergency VoIP call, Provisioning, Positioning –Areas to address: Configuring the AT to know which services are available on HRPD Always assume IP connectivity Support of roaming AT Operator’s migration path (e.g., ICS) Benefits: –Improve battery life –Improve performances –Support of simultaneous VoIP and data on HRPD system Enhance user experience

BCMCS Enhancements Support emergency alert –Need to develop BCMCS-Lite standard and interfaces for emergency alert support Support Security for clip-casting and file downloading –Currently SRTP is used for encryption –SRTP may not be efficient for clip-casting and file downloading Enhanced Accounting –Usage based accounting

IMS Centralized Services/Multimedia Session Continuity (ICS/MMSC) 1x support for IMS centralized services and multimedia session continuity –Support for legacy 1x CS mobile: When the MS switched to the MSC, the MSC server communicates with the ICS Application Server (the Service Centralization and Continuity Application Server SCC AS) on behalf of the mobile –Managing Supplementary Services: Offers a standardized way of implementing services such as call forwarding, barring, hold, resume, 3-way calling etc. –Combination of Different Types of Media: Video calling, picture sharing and other media streams can be added or removed from a session at any time. –Handover to 2G Hand over the voice to a circuit switched bearer with network control Need to specify MSC Server definition in 3GPP2 Need to specify USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data)-like solution for MS-SCC AS interface (I1) signaling

Multimedia Priority Service (MMPS) Provide priority services to packet data services –National governments (e.g., USA) are studying ways to expand Wireless Priority Services capability, defined for CS voice, to PS network services –MMPS capabilities can be extended to commercial users, enabling subscription tiers High end users would have superior service perception and consistency in network performance –Very low or zero admission blocking rate for premium users (e.g. business users) –Higher admission blocking rate(s) for users of less discerning performance expectations (e.g. teenagers) –Network capacity management would be easier for operator Provide the better overall network efficiency and fitness for purpose Status: –Work Item “Priority Services for NGN” was initiated in 2005Work Item –Stage 1 S.R0117 “Multimedia Priority Services” was published in July 2006Stage 1 S.R0117 3GPP2 need to complete the end-to-end design, e.g.,: –Dynamic priority invocation per packet call –Accounting indication on MMPS call –Indication delivered to the termination party on MMPS for originator –Pre-emption and Queuing mechanism

Network Support for Access Technology Specific Aspects Access specific triggers/procedures to enable context management Collaborative bandwidth/capacity management for multimode (multiple radio interfaces) smart phones Generic link/network layer containers for mobility management and QoS management NFCC-like capabilities in the mobile, as mobile devices and notebooks converge

MMD and PDS updates MMD Updates: –1x SMS/IMS and 1x VCC updates, if needed –Any maintenance on MMD specs that is not handled in 3GPP Common IMS. PDS Updates: –Maintain X.S0011 family for bug fixes –Maintain all other documents for bug fixes –Minor feature enhancements –Performance enhancements
