Presentation transcript:

Tired of being harassed by your parole agent? Tired of going back to prison for another violation? Is the use of drugs interfering with your life? Is lack of education and/or sobriety limiting your potential to be a productive member of society? Are you sick and tired of being sick and tired? Well give yourself a break, you deserve it! Ask your agent about the Substance abuse Treatment and Recovery (STAR) program or the Literacy Lab and learn about the recovery process, get your GED, and make yourself and your agent happy for a change.

Substance Abuse Treatment and Recovery (STAR) Program Providing Alternative Sentencing for Parolees and Caseload Management Options for Parole Agents Throughout California And the California Department of Corrections Project presents

The mission of the California Department of Corrections (CDC) Project is to provide computer-assisted literacy instruction and substance abuse education lead to employment, self-sufficiency and parolee success. 29 STAR Program sites are located throughout the state of California. Site in Ontario, CA

Philosophy of Substance Abuse Treatment and Recovery (STAR)   Due to the chronic nature of substance abuse, the STAR Program is not just informational, but designed to be an intervention. The concepts of recovery and clean, sober and crime-free living are presented through a five-step process model of instruction. This program provides the parolee with an opportunity to comply with the Department of Correction with a substantial tool to fight the problem of substance abuse and repeat offenders.

The STAR Program Provides:   A supervised intensive, four- week substance abuse education program for parolees, located within the parole office.   Credentialed teachers that have extensive substance abuse education and corrections backgrounds.   Curriculum focused on process of addiction, stress and anger management, developing healthy relationships and relapse prevention.   Agents with daily reports on parolee attendance and performance.   Comprehensive community transition planning.   Bus tokens to and from the parole office for STAR students.   Daily parolee contact for agents.

Community Transition Planning   Teachers work one-on-one with parolees to develop a personalized Community Transition Plan. Specific recovery goals are identified and then addressed throughout the plan. The plan also includes educational and employment strategies and other vital resources. Research findings show that: One year after release, over 72% of parolees who attended the STAR program DID NOT return to custody. If you are interested in maintaining your freedom and changing your life then contact your agent of record or the officer of the day for a referral to STAR.
