Definition The operation that reverses the effect of another operation.

Example = – 20 = 10 The same numbers in reverse.

You can do these problems with addition, subtraction, multiplication or division.

How to For example, if you start with the number 6, and then add 4: = 10 to get back to the 6, you have to subtract 4 from 10: 10 – 4 = 6

With and 14 × 4 = ÷ 4 = 14 The same numbers in reverse.

Examples The inverse operation of = 19 is 19 – 9 = 10 and The inverse operation of 7 × 9 = 63 is 63 ÷ 9 = 7

Problem Identify the inverse operation for 14 × 4 = 56 Choices: A. 56 ÷ 4 = 14 B. 56 × 4 = 14 C. 14 ÷ 4 = 56 D = 14 The answer is A.

Two operations are said to be inverse to each other if one operation undoes the effect of the other operation
