Who is Armstrong? We're a small-to-medium size university library in Savannah, GA primarily using ILLiad. Odyssey is our preferred method for sending articles, followed by Article Exchange, , ARIEL and snail mail.
Why we love Article Exchange A--It’s free! B--Doesn't need proprietary software like ARIEL. C--Sends multiple file types up to 60 MB. D--Allows electronic delivery of articles to libraries who can't afford Clio, ARIEL or ILLiad, or have limits on their systems. E--It's secure and temporary.
How do we use it? Articles are scanned within Odyssey using an OptiBook PlusTek 4600 and saved as PDFs to a shared drive. Then we use the add-on in ILLiad to upload them and send an Gmail notification to the borrowing library. Doesn’t require much additional training beyond using ILLiad.
Where can I get more information? Documentation for ILLiad libraries is available here: sys.com/display/ILLiadAddons/ILLiad+Addons General information is on OCLC's site here: articleexchange/default.htm OCLC also offers free online classes to learn about Article Exchange. sys.com/display/ILLiadAddons/ILLiad+Addons articleexchange/default.htm
Here too….. Use the ILL-L listserv. We’re a chatty bunch, and love to help. ILLiad libraries can use the Workflowtoolkit-l list: kit-l
Limitations of the system If using Gmail, it puts the ILLiad Transaction Number in the instead of the ILL number. Works better in a smaller environment as a primary method of sending articles. If there is a problem it doesn't have an error message to tell you what's wrong.
