Peer Helpers’ Program

What????  young people provide services to other young people supervised and supported by professionals  bridge between the youth and the professional services  a variety of terms used to describe peer work: peer tutoring, peer facilitation, peer counselling, peer support, and peer education, the term, peer helping

Why Peer Helping? youth often seek out their peers when they are experiencing some frustration, worry or concern, loneliness, resentment and may be unsuccessful within the school assists children and adolescents to feel capable, understood, and responsible teaches young people decision-making skills to help combat negative peer pressure

What peer helping is not!!!!! Peer helpers do not make decisions for others. Peer helpers do not provide therapy or treatment.

Roles of a Peer Helper…… orientation guides—helping students from feeder schools or helping persons new to the community referral agents—helping youth get connected to school counseling opportunities and other appropriate services peer supporters—helping others sort out concerns, brainstorm ideas, and provide practical help role models—helping others learn appropriate behaviours

Members of the Peer Helpers’ Club Two students(one boy and one girl) from each class. All the students can ask for help from anyone of them.

THANK YOU Tashi Delek!
