UpWind THE EC INTEGRATED PROJECT UPWIND Peter Hjuler Jensen Programme Manager Coordinator for UpWind Risoe National Laboratory

UpWind Outline Background Scope and Objective Work Package Structure Participants Organization Budget, duration, kick off meeting etc

UpWind Background Wind Energy back in EC 6’th Frame Work Programme Great achievement for EWEA and the Wind Energy Community Also projects in Wind Energy in a call in December Wind Turbines increases in size which requires new design tools, components and materials Competition gets harder in sector and with other sectors which puts pressure on the economic efficiency Therefore UpWind is made so the industry in a more efficient way can utilize the European Research capacity in the next generations of wind turbines

UpWind EU – Objective and Challenge

UpWind Project objective UpWind will develop and verify substantially improved models of the principle wind turbine components, which the industry needs for the design and manufacture of wind turbines for future very large-scale applications, more cost efficient e.g. offshore wind farms of several hundred MW. The wind turbines needed will be very large (>8-10 MW and rotor diameter > 120 m).

UpWind Project goal - efficiency
