Sharing of Medical Records Update Michelle Turpin, Senior Service Improvement Manager, NNE

Overview Update the NNE Patients Council regarding MIG eDSM Sharing Medical Records

Detail MIG is now live Currently 20% of patient records are available to be shared Success of MIG dependent on patient records being available to view if required EMIS - records are automatically available to share TPP is different you have to set share via eDSM When someone needs to view record the patient is always asked for permission – they can say NO

Legal duty to make records available to share Must adhere to Data Protection Act Must adhere to all 7 Caldicott principles 1-6 keeping information safe 7 duty to share information RIG Guidance Notice to all healthcare organisations for records to be made available to share Agreed to set implied consent to all records Does not over-ride any dissents already set

The MIG project recognise the need for eDSM shares - dedicated sub project Co-ordinated approach across the county Patient and public feedback taken into account No countywide media campaign planned CCG can do own media – facebook and twitter Joint communication and support materials will be issued to practices shortly

Videos for use with staff and patients patientshttps://vimeo.com/ clinical staffhttps://vimeo.com/ Frequently Asked Questions Support documentation for practices

Outcome and Close Patient and Public feedback taken into account Central communication materials provided No county wide media campaign CCGs can do own campaign (facebook, Twitter etc) Ask PPGs to approach their practices to see how they could support with this eg during flu clinic talking to patients and collecting explicit consents
