About me… ► A Ventura local ► UCSD—biology major/teaching minor ► CSUCI—teaching credential ► CSUN—master’s degree in education leadership ► Interests—volleyball, beach, snowboarding, running

My goals ► Establish proper skills and procedures ► Teach why as well as how ► Organization ► College Level Rigor and Maturity

Class Expectations ► Everyone has the right to learn and no person should inhibit the learning or teaching process. ► Be respectful at all times, including respecting personal space and personal property. Be kind to others and treat everybody with dignity. ► Cell phones or pagers that ring will be confiscated. Music players may be listened to only when permission is granted. ► Food, drink and gum must be disposed of before entering the classroom (water is fine). ► Use only positive language in the classroom.

Suggested Supplies ► Lab Notebook (1 was provided) ► Calendar/Agenda ► Pencils, pens (blue and black ink), highlighters, erasers and storage pouch ► Space in binder for handouts ► $100 lab donation

Grading System ► Lab Notebook: Each lab will be recorded in the student’s lab notebook. Grades will be assessed upon the following: Pre-lab write-up: Must be in blue or black ink, follow standard format, have a procedural flowchart, include any calculations and be witnessed by peer. Lab conclusions: Must include analysis of data, restatement and acceptance or rejection of hypothesis, possible errors and practical applications of lab. Table of Contents: Must be maintained on a regular basis. Will be checked on occasion during lab. ► Quizzes/Tests: Each day that a new lab will begin, students will be quizzed on the basic principles covered during that lab. Questions may be asked of previous labs as a means of reviewing. Tests on lab skills will also be given. ► Written/Oral Projects: Students will be asked to present on various topics through out the course. Assignments details will be given out for each presentation required. ► Science Service: Students are to complete a required amount of service with lab duties each quarter
