Patty Hill Her ideas about unifying kindergarten and 1 st Grade work became the focus of modern kindergarten practice.

Her Theory: She was part of the Playground Movement. Patty Smith Hill and her siblings were given much freedom to enjoy outdoor play and experiment with building materials, such as bricks, boards, and other materials, found at their father’s carpenter shop at the seminary.

Her Theory: She felt that children needed socialization and free play to develop their full potential. Her classrooms were filled with toys such as: cars, trucks, pots, pans, play money, and other loose parts.

Happy Birthday In 1893 Mildred, Hills sister, and Patty wrote a song to welcome the kindergarteners to class called “Good Morning to You” this song later became “Happy Birthday to You”.
