Developing the Tech Prep Curriculum There is NO Tech Prep without change to curriculum Prepares for technical careers High standards Academic Technical SCANS (employability skills, workplace skills)

Academic Standards Clear expectations in specified academic disciplines Should be coupled with occupational skill standards Lead to increased academic performance

Illinois Learning Standards (Illinois Academic Standards) Seven Learning Areas: English Language Arts Mathematics Science Social Science Physical Development & Health Fine Arts Foreign Languages

Illinois Occupational Skill Standards Illinois Occupational Skill Standards and Credentialing Council (IOSSCC) It is the vision of the IOSSCC to develop a statewide system of industry-defined and recognized skill standards and credentials for all major skilled occupations providing strong employment & earnings opportunities in Illinois. For industries that already have national skill standards and credentialing systems or a system of apprenticeship programs and professional certification, the IOSSCC will endorse these existing standards if business and industry in Illinois support them.
