Why I want to teach Kristin Sluder EDUC 101

INTASC standard, description and rationale Standard #9: Professional Learning and Ethical Practice The teacher engages in ongoing professional learning and uses evidence to continually evaluate his/her practice, particularly the effects of his/her choices and actions on others (learners, families, other professionals, and the community), and adapts practice to meet the needs of each learner. Name of Artifact: Why I want to teach PowerPoint Date: March 6, 2014 Course: EDUC 101 Brief description: For this assignment, I developed a PowerPoint on why I want to teach. This includes reasons for wanting to teach, traits of an effective teacher, educational philosophy, student’s characteristics, community characteristics, contributions to the profession, and teacher quotes. Rationale: To document my understanding of Standard #9, Planning for Instruction, I selected to include Why I want to teach PowerPoint because this assignment demonstrates my ability to evaluate the effects my choices and actions will have on others. This assignment demonstrates my ability to use my past an d present learning experiences and tell how they will effect my future.

Reasons for wanting to teach I want to teach because I love To Help children achieve their best. celebrate student success. Teaching and learning from the students. Being a positive influence for a student.

Traits of an effective teacher An open mind Patience Dedication Flexibility and understanding Positive and caring attitude Good communicator Lifelong learner

Educational Philosophy I want to become the kind of teacher that… is dedicated and reliable. has an open mind and continues to learn. is respected by student, parents and coworkers. inspires students to do their best.

Student’s characteristics I want to teach students that… work hard are prepared try their best have open minds Have positive attitudes Participate

Community Characteristics The community were I want to work should be a diverse community a community where teachers, students, and parents feel safe. a community where teachers are fair, knowledgeable, unbiased, willing to help, respected, dependable, and easily approached.

Contributions to the profession My contributions to the profession will be… I will look at students individual needs and help them achieve their particular best. I will communicate with students, parents, and teachers in my community honestly. I will strive to be the best teacher I can be.

Teacher Quotes The teacher is the one who gets the most out of the lessons, and the true teacher is the learner.-Elbert Hubbard I have come to believe that a great teacher is a great artist and that there are as few as there are any other great artists. Teaching might even be the greatest of the arts since the medium is the human mind and spirit.-John Steinbeck A good teacher can inspire hope, ignite the imagination, and instill a love of learning.-Brad Henry I like a teacher who gives you something to take home to think about besides homework.-Lily Tomlin Every child should have a caring adult in their lives. And that's not always a biological parent or family member. It may be a friend or neighbor. Often times it is a teacher.-Joe Manchin
