Molise is a small region rich in water… Abruzzo Campania Puglia Adriatic Sea Lazio

Near our town there are also smaller rivers which are very important for the local population. In the valley south of Pietracatella there is the Tappino river, tributary of Fortore river, which flows into Occhito lake. From Occhito and Guardialfiera lakes water is taken and given to the region Puglia which is poor in water.

Along Biferno river there are 20 hydroelectric plants. The students of the second class from Sant’Elia a Pianisi visited the one located in the town of Casalciprano.

The hydroelectric power plant converts the hydraulic energy of the natural watercourse into electrical energy. The potential energy of falling water is transformed into mechanical energy, because the water transfers its energy to the turbine that is set in motion by transferring its energy to the rotor and transforms it into electrical energy.

This system of obtaining electricity from water is very old, dating back 100 years, and quite environmentally.
