Continents A continent is one of several very large landmasses on Earth. They are generally identified by convention rather than any strict criteria, with up to seven regions commonly regarded as continents.

COUNTRIES – are part of continents ASIA SOUTH AMERICA

Country A country is a region that is identified as a distinct entity in political geography. United States, England, France, China, Egypt, Australia, Brazil and Mexico Can you think of any other countries?

STATES – are part of countries ASIA SOUTH AMERICA

States a nation or territory considered as an organized political community under one government. Illinois, Texas, California Can you think of two more states?

Counties – are part of states

Map Key gives you the information needed for the map to make sense. Maps often use symbols or colors to represent things, and the map key explains what they mean.

Distance Scale a measurement tool on a map to the actual distance between locations identified on the map
