4° EGEE User Forum/OGF25 OGF-Europe’s 2° International Event Silvana Muscella, OGF.eeig Technical coordinator OGF-Europe 4° EGEE User Forum/OGF25 OGF-Europe’s 2° International event 1

Overview OGF-Europe: Making an Impact Driving Standards Forward Accomplishments so far [ ] Planned for [ ] OGF-Europe launches Web 2.0 website OGF-Europe at OGF25 Work with Us 4° EGEE User Forum/OGF25 OGF-Europe’s 2° International event 2

OGF-EUROPE: Making an impact Promoting the value of standardisation enabling innovation Developing standards with end-users, developers, diverse groups Connecting user groups to share best practices & transform them into standards Supporting the implementation of European standards Fostering synergies between other SDOs such as W3C, SNIA, DMTF, OASIS Ensuring OGF standards are aligned with the needs of European stakeholders 3

Driving Standards Forward Bridging the gap between OGF standards and the needs of Stakeholders Active in creation of introducing OGF-Europe Workshops on transition to cloud computing and data services Industry Expert Group (IEG): 17 distinguished & voluntary group of industry members Analysing the needs of EU businesses & ensuring OGF standards are aligned with industry needs Reports on adoption challenges, best practices & user case studies Introducing & Sensibilising the Next Generation of Scholars – Development of the Student Scholar Programme – Supported the Student scholars at OGF23 & OFG25 4

Accomplishments so far 1 of 3 1 st International Event - OGF23, Barcelona, ES, June 2008 >530 attendees, international press coverage, press conference, rapporteur reports on main results Community Outreach Seminars Selected Themes In collaboration with OGF: Digital Repositories, Green IT, Grids & Cloud Computing, Software Development, Service Oriented Infrastructures - a Telco industry perspective, Creative Industries Adoption Challenges Reports Digital Repositories: Evolving a Community – First Digital Repositories Community Outreach Seminar – IDCC, Edinburgh, UK, December 1-2, 2008 – Supporting the OGF Data WG – Community Best Practice Report – Follow-Up at OGF25 5

Accomplishments so far 2 of 3 Grid Interoperability Now (GIN -CG) Workshops – Supporting through secretarial support to dedicated meetings throughout 2008 – Reps. Of OGF-Europe assisted in the meetings to ensure real production level interoperability which has led to a new OGF WG est. the Production Grid Infrastructure PGI-WG OGF-Europe Tutorials focus on: – Managing computational activities on the grid, exploring core OGF standards, such as OGSA-BES, JSDL, HPC-BP and GLUE. – As the gLite, UNICORE & ARC middleware are implementing these standards, it is important to try the working systems and stimulate early feedback. – The management of storage spaces and files in complex storage systems using the SRM (Storage Resource Manager) 6

Accomplishments so far 3 of 3 OGF24 - EU & Asia-Pacific Co-operation on Grids & Future Challenges Survey Year 1 Designed to connect with the end-user Grid Cloudscape > 100 participants met in Brussels Jan ’09 for Cloudscape “Exploiring Cloud Computing & its impact on Enterprise IT” – Outcome report Publicly available 2 nd International event OGF25, in collaboration with 4 th EGEE User Forum >580 attendees, 19 demos, > 40 posters & 10 exhibition booths 7

Planned for [ ] Survey yr 2 Feedback of specific standards to create profiles and flags for pursuing best practices Watch your Tuesday 4 th March !
