Redefining Greatness Luke 9:43-48

43 But while they were all marveling at everything he was doing, Jesus said to his disciples, 44 “Let these words sink into your ears: The Son of Man is about to be delivered into the hands of men.” 45 But they did not understand this saying, and it was concealed from them, so that they might not perceive it. And they were afraid to ask him about his saying. Luke 9:43-45

Luke 9: An argument arose among them as to which of them was the greatest. But Jesus, knowing the reasoning of their hearts took a child and put him by his side and said to them, “Whoever receives this child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me receives him who sent me. For he who is least among you all is the one who is great”.

Luke 9:46 46An argument arose among them as to who was the greatest. What caused the disciples to argue?

Faces of Faulty Greatness Narcissism –Enamored with self. Self worship -Vanity, focused on outward perceptions -In the church this shows up as self righteousness and consumer driven Christianity. What are you gonna do for me? Comparisonism –Constantly compares themselves to other people –Spends time overworking, overspending, being overly critical so that they can appear to have it all together and be as good as the next guy.

Luke 9: But Jesus, knowing the reasoning of their hearts, took a child and put him by his side 48 and said to them, “Whoever receives this child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me receives him who sent me. For he who is least among you all is the one who is great. How Does Jesus Redefine Greatness?

Malachi 2:15 15“Did he not make them one, with a portion of the Spirit in their union? And what was the one God seeking “Godly offspring”. What does God want? Godly Children
