Community and Family Studies HSC Enrichment Days 2010 The Aged

Legal Definition as defined by the government or government body According to the Bureau of Statistics the aged are classified as people who have lived or existed for 65 years or longer. Australia ’ s ageing population is spread across an age span of years. People in this group will have varying physical and mental capabilities.

Social Definition as defined by society’s perception and attitudes Old people who are nearing the end of human life, they are usually retired and rely on government support and other for help Terms or stereotypes used to describe the aged are elderly, old, senile, advanced adult, senior citizen, granny, pensioner

Characteristics of the Aged
