EBRD – JSC “Serbian Railways“ - D’Appolonia S.p.A – EMIS By analyzing the difference between the current practice of Serbian Railways and energy management best practices recognized by defining the parameters and indicators of EMIS, with respect to railway standards and regulations, we expect that, in cooperation with a team that was formed on behalf of AD “Železnice Srbije” at least three levels of EMIS implementation are defined:

1st Using the current system for resource use monitoring and other operating parameters. The information is integrated in a centralized control platform that is based on the Internet (expandable). Defining operational protocols. 2nd Expansion of EMIS, to include monitoring of all planned parameters / indicators and full integration into the control system developed by extending Level 1 3rd Development of interface with other management systems in Serbian Railways and preparing logical loop to interact with operating systems (e.g. red drive).

STRATEGIES OF POSSIBLE SAVINGS Energy Information Management System A C T I O N INFRASTRUCTURE HAULING TRAINS SECONDARY CONSUMPTION Transport Economics Energy Audit for administrative and station buildings, workshops, depots, storages and other buildings Modernization of plant and equipment Maintenance and training Acquisition (buying) of new locomotives and rolling stock - Reducing the weight of train - aerodynamic - utilization of space - thermal insulation - revision of consumption for comfort Planning methods and types of data collection Determination responsible for submitting data Measuring and recording Data delivery Monitoring, control and analysis Energy Audit Taking measures to improve energy efficiency Intervention on undercarriage Achieving design speeds on major routes Construction of second track for all main railway line (Corridor X) The transition from decentralized units to centralized systems for cooling and heating (if it is possible to use natural gas) Using solar panels to produce hot water Improving the thermal insulation of buildings Installation of photocells for station and platform lighting The introduction of LED technology for indoor and outdoor lighting Regenerative braking Eco - driving Active traffic management Timetable Load factor and flexible trains Maintenance and training

1st South East Environment Workshop September Belgrade, Serbia Mr. Zlatko Draško, M Sc. Env.Eng. Head of Department for Environmental Protection IT support in Department for Environmental Protection

The Department is currently collecting the data about the waste which is generated in Serbian Railways. The data which are collected are: Types and classification of waste ( the location of generating, name, characteristics, category of waste...), Quantities of waste, Method of waste management.

The data are used for Annual Report on Waste (GIO1) which is, in accordance with Law on Waste Management („ Official Gazette “ no.36/09 i 88/10) delivered to the Environmental Protection Agency.

Using of Informational Technologies (IT) would enable faster access to the information about waste in every moment, which would be used for: Legal Forms ( daily records on waste DEO1, annual report on waste GIO1, do c ume n t o n waste flows...), Control of waste flows ( secondary raw materials, dangerous waste...).
