1 Using layers NOTES

2 Open Adobe Photoshop Elements. Select a size of A4. Create 5 new layers by selecting layer > new. Do this action five times. Click on the foreground colour. Choose a colour.

3 Select Layer1. Select the rectangular marquee tool. Draw a rectangle as shown. Hold down the Alt and BkSp key. The rectangle should turn to solid colour. Click on the eye Select Layer2. Click on the marquee tool and hold down the left hand mouse key. Select the elliptical marquee tool. Select another colour. Draw an ellipse. Fill it with colour.

4 Click on the eye icon on layer 2. Select layer 3. Select the polygon tool. Draw a triangle. Fill it with another colour. Click on the eye icon on layer 3 Select layer 4. Draw a circular marquee, this can be done by selecting the elliptical marquee and hold down shift while drawing. Fill it with another colour. For the last layer draw a square and fill it with a different colour. Click on all the eye icons which have disappeared. All the layers will be shown.

5 Rearrange the layers by clicking on them and dragging them into a different order. Select a layer. From the layer tab select an effect. Repeat this for each layer until to reach a desired effect. Once the effects have been reached use the move/rotation tool to manipulate the shapes. Add a background by adding a new layer.

7 From the CD open the file called girl.jpeg and also open the file called glass.jpeg which can be found in the JPEG folder Click on the blue area to activate each image For each of the images select enhance (from the top menu bar) and then quick fix. Select Brightness and Auto levels.

8 Select the image of the girl. Notice in the layers menu the image is called a background. Double click on the word background. A dialog box will appear to rename the layer. Rename the layer girl. Repeat the same for the glass and rename it glass.

9 Using the Zoom tool zoom in on the girls head. With the eraser tool, erase around the girl as shown. Keep zooming around the girl.

10 Zoom in close and use the eraser tool to get rid of the background.

11 Click on select at the top menu bar. Click on all. Click on edit Click on copy Click on the blue bar of the glass to activate it. Click Edit then Paste. Select the resize tool Resize the girl so she fits into the glass.

12 Click on the eye next to the picture of the girl. The glass should be only visible now. Using the magnetic lasso tool trace around the ice and top of the glass. Click on edit. Click on copy. Click Paste. In the layers palette The ice will appear as shown.

13 Click and hold down the left hand mouse button on the Girl layer and drag it between the glass and ice. Click on the eye to bring back the picture of the girl.

14 Make sure the picture of the ice is selected. Click on the Opacity Tab. Take it down to 50%.

15 Select the girl layer hold down Ctrl and click on the girl layer. This will select the whole image. Choose the rectangular marquee tool from the tool box. Hold down the Alt key and draw a box around the girls head. The marching ants will not appear around her head.

16 From the filter tab select ocean Ripple. Try different ripple effects.

18 Open up Adobe Photoshop Elements. Click on file New Select A4 paper size. Click on the foreground colour. A dialog box will appear as shown. Select a red colour. Hold down the Alt and the Backspace key. This will fill the screen with a red colour.

19 Select Filter Select Noise Select Add Noise Make the noise level %100

20 Select Filter Select Pixelate Select Crystallize. Choose a crystallize of your choice. Select Filter Select Distort Select Liquify Select the Warp tool (the one which looks like a finger) Set a brush size of 50 Set pressure at %50 Try different settings.

21 Click on the New Adjustment Layer Icon. Select Hue/Saturation. Adjust the sliders to create different effects.
