William Penn was a Quaker He had been put in prison in England several times for his religious beliefs. He was able to get land in the Americas and wanted to create a place where everyone’s religion was respected.

Quakers were persecuted in England Quakers were placed in stockades, imprisoned, or even executed for practicing their religion. This man and woman will be put to death for not following the Church of England.
