UFCU Employee Mobility Program

Did you know?  Mobility programs can be marketed as part of employee benefits packages. Companies that offer these options to their employees boast better retention numbers and higher rankings on employee satisfaction. Did you know? Employee Attraction and Retention

Millennials Gen Y wants flexibility… Within the next 10 years, Generation Y will be almost ½ the workforce. Millennial employees today were 50% more likely to leave their jobs because they do not believe it is a “sound place to work.”

Process  Commitment to the pledge (20% by 2020)  Meetings with Mobility 2020 partners  Rigorous data gathering and analysis  Discussion with stakeholders – management and employees  Identified three pilot programs to test  Analysis, feedback, implementation

Customized Data thanks to Mobility employees (almost) across multiple locations  A whopping 94.5% of respondents drive alone  On average they travel 15 miles to work, spending 33 minutes getting to work and 37 to get home.  The majority also commute during peak traffic hours Statistic is ten (10) points higher than most Austin employers  Data shows that this distance puts employees ‘at risk’ from an HR/retention standpoint in urban areas with increasing congestion employees will seek jobs closer to home.

UFCU employees top reasons for driving alone  Need to run errands before or after work (47.5%)  No reasonable transit option (39.5%)  Cannot get home in an emergency (36.2%)  Don’t like to depend on others (33.0%) Emergency objection easily overcome

85% said yes we’d try something new

High percentage of employees could rideshare!

Large percentage does not have to drop off children!

Three Pilots to test options  Promote ridesharing and transit  Capital Metro VanPool pilot – Plaza and Branch  Car2Go, Karma and other rideshare options  Bus Pass Pilot (aka MetroWorks)  Limited subsidies/incentives for early adopters  Flexible scheduling  Reduce peak drive time through arrive late/leave early or shift rotation strategies  Telework Analysis  Scoping all “job families” for eligibility for telework  Not every individual in eligible job is a good candidate  Manager training and education  Limited rollout

Telework  90% of survey respondents support UFCU offering a formal telework program. More than 60% could work from home 2-3 days per week.

Transit Options Map  Shows all UFCU locations  Who lives and works where  What transit options? Bus? Rail?  More than 100 employees at the first “Mobility Fair” to learn more

Lessons Learned  Start with people where they are, not where you want them to be  Be ready to be disruptive  Preserve culture before all else  Long term change requires long term thinking and investment  Rely on the partners from Mobility 2020!
