 India is a country in the south of Asia. The name of it comes from the name of the river Indus. It is washed by the Arabian Sea in the west, by the Bay of Biscay in the east and by the Indian Ocean in the south.

 The country borders on Pakistan in the west and north-west, on China through the Himalayas in the north, on Nepal in the north-east and on Bangladesh in the east. The total area of the country is 3 million 290 thousand sq km.

 The climate here is mainly subequatorial and in the south it is tropical. There are tree seasons: dry and cold, dry and hot, wet and hot.  The wettest place in the world is in India. The amount of rainfalls here is about mm a year.

 They are full of sandals, cedars, pines, fur-trees, silver-trees, bamboo, coco and date palms. Higher to the Himalayas there are Alpine meadows.  There are kinds of plants in India. ¼ of all the territory is covered with forests. You can find monsoon forests, mixed and deciduous forests and wet equatorial forests here.

 Animal world in India is various. There are 500 kinds of mammals, 350 kinds of reptiles and kinds of birds in it. There are many monkeys in the forests of India. Also you can find 200 kinds of snakes, 52 of which are poisonous.

 India is a Federal Republic with 25 states and 7 territories. The head of the state is the president elected for 5 years. The population of India is over 1 million and 30 thousand people. TThe state languages are Hindi and English.

 The capital of India is Delhi. The population of the city is 13 million people. There are a lot of ancient temples and castles there. You can see a lot of interesting historical buildings too.

OOther big cities are Mumbai and Kolkata.

EElephants are the most loving animals and the best helpers of Indian people. These huge animals are kept with care and love and become tame in no time.

 Another sacred animal is a cow.
