Have you ever played the board game “Clue” Have you ever played the board game “Clue”? In this game, players gather information in order to determine the murderer, murder weapon and crime scene. Actually, participants are not “guessing” when they play this game; they are using deductive reasoning. As players gather more information they begin to put together the pieces of the mystery.

Using Deductive Reasoning in the Real World Forensic scientists collect and evaluate evidence from a crime scene. Usually evidence is acquired in a random order and forensic scientists must piece the puzzle back together using logical and critical thinking skills—deductive reasoning. NOW IT’S YOUR TURN TO USE YOUR DEDUCTIVE REASONING SKILLS!

Evidence Collection Model Part I: Contract & Method/Model First create a team contract with roles for the upcoming challenges. As a forensics team, create your own method/model for collecting evidence. This method/model should be logical & easy for someone else to use. Part II: Collection Use your team’s method/model for collecting evidence to document evidence from the crime scene in the classroom.
