Stress  Stress- Is the response of your body and mind to being challenged or threatened.  Eustress- Positive stress. Ex. Butterflies before a big game or taking a test. Distress- Negative Stress. Ex. Getting sick from a Stressor.

Fight-or-Flight Response  Alarm Stage- Your body releases a chemical called adrenaline Ex. Breathing Increases, Heart rate increases, Muscles tense, Sweating, Blood pressure increases.  Resistance Stage- You become tired, irritable, and less able to handle any additional stress  Exhaustion Stage- A stressor that last for weeks, months or even years.

Coping with Stress  Mental Rehearsal- You practice an event without actually doing the event.  Time Management- Managing your time so you can get the most accomplished throughout the day.  Physical Activity- You provide your body with a healthy outlet for built up energy. At the same time you shift the focus from your problems to the task at hand.  Relaxation- Relaxed you may be awake and alert, but are not responding actively to stressors. You may relax your mind by reading, Taking a nap, Listening to music, taking a shower.  Biofeedback- People learn to control one or more body functions by monitoring their body’s responses.

Stress and Personality  Optimist- Is the tendency to focus on the positive aspects of a situation.  Pessimist- Is the tendency to focus on the negative and expect the worst.  Perfectionist- Is a person who accepts nothing less than excellence.
