BUILDING BLOCKS OF GOOD CHARACTER COMPASSION: sensitive to the needs, wants, emotions of others Good Citizenship: obeying laws and rules, showing respect for authority, protecting the environment Fairness: abide by rules and are a good sport, do not take advantage of others Responsibility: do what you promise and are accountable for your decision Honesty: not lying, stealing or misleading anyone Trustworthiness: being dependable, loyal, and honest Respect: treat others as you want to be treated

SELF ESTEEM   FOUR ELEMENTS OF SELF-ESTEEM Recognizing and accepting strengths Each person has special abilities and traits, which make them unique. Identifying these strengths and traits and pursuing activities that use them gives a person a sense of accomplishment. Creating a sense of belonging Relationships help people feel like they belong and are important to others. Developing a sense of power Having a sense of power allows someone to believe they have the ability to affect their own lives. They feel capable of taking risks, making choices, and taking charge. Having and imitating role models People with standards help give direction to others lives. Allowing others to see those qualities lived out in real life is a powerful example that it can be done.

SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL ENVIRONMENT The quality of contacts a person has with the people with whom they interact S-E booster is a contact that helps a person feel encouragement and support, choose responsible behavior, and recognize options S-E pollutant is a contact that limits options, may cause a person to feel discouraged and alone or to choose wrong behavior

WAYS A POSITIVE SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL ENVIRONMENT IMPROVES HEALTH STATUS Improves self respect Provides support for responsible behavior Allows you to correct mistakes, forgive yourself, and move on Helps you to be resilient Helps you to be optimistic Helps to prevent and relieve stress and depression Helps prevent feelings of loneliness and alienation Reduces the risk of psychosomatic diseases
