Expanding Communications on the New T 3 TLC Program

Teacher Leader Cadre Rewrites of the TLC workshops incorporate nine components of effective professional development –Address students learning needs –Incorporate hands-on technology use –Are job-embedded –Have application to specific curricula –Address knowledge, skills and beliefs –Occur over time –Occur with colleagues –Provide technical assistance and support to teachers –Evaluation

Teacher Leader Cadre TLC training occurs over 9 days –Format can be 5-2-2, , Workshop includes –Technology focused training –Content/curriculum specific –Pedagogy –Teaching adults –Building a learning community Everything above is infused over the 9 days

Teacher Leader Cadre Participants in a TLC are the foundation of the Learning Community 9 days together promotes –Community –Flow –Sense of belonging –Final presentations that benefit entire group, not subsets –Establishes instructor as “leader” and mentor that should extend beyond the training

Teacher Leader Cadre New components and ideas –TLC = 9 day training with all components covered throughout 9 days –Not a 5 day institute with 4 days of TLC follow up –Objective testing at start and finish. Start drives specific focus, end tells us about knowledge gained. Also used to determine content knowledge

Teacher Leader Cadre More new components and ideas –TLC guarantees opportunity to APPLY for T 3 Regional Certification –Letter to supervisor for recommendation –TI-Navigator 2.0 integrated throughout all TLC workshops

Key ideas for TLC trainings Discuss “Learning Community” and “Teacher Leader” components throughout 9 days, not just last 4 Bring some of your ideas to share Build the group dynamic and encourage them to exchange ideas outside of workshop via , meetings, etc If comfortable, establish yourself as “leader” of the community until someone is ready to take over Start an list to share ideas within this group

Key ideas for TLC trainings A new evaluation form An independent evaluator at the final presentations Visit the Activities Exchange on the TI website and discuss posting activities –T 3 Regional applicants are required to post an activity prior to certification Excel spreadsheet for tracking all TLC attendees Graduation Kit – number of kits sent based on your count of participants likely to complete

Key ideas for TLC trainings Participants considering T 3 Regional certification: Discuss “Learning Community” - they are the Teacher Leaders, the foundation of that community T 3 Regional application is not a requirement of the coursework Applying for T 3 Regional certification indicates a personal desire to deliver professional development to colleagues locally, regionally, and nationally

Key ideas for TLC trainings Participants considering T 3 Regional certification: Clear understanding of expectations –12 hours of F2F PD required –120 people reached –Attendance at PD conferences strongly suggested –Submit proposals to present at T 3 Regionals, national, state and local conferences Participants have 5 weeks from the end date of the training to submit application for T 3 Regional Instructor consideration

Teacher Leader Cadre and the District Goal of the Teacher Leader Cadre training is to build Teachers Leaders for a district/state/region Teacher Leaders support efforts to meet NCLB requirements and provide long term, systemic PD The foundation of the Learning Community – strength in relationships built with peers and instructor over 9 days (occurs over time, occurs with colleagues)
