Personal Branding Starting at a young age, everything you do reflects upon your personal brand Social Media profiles, blogs, forum posts, etc. all contribute to shaping your Personal Brand Everything that you put on the Internet can be traced back to you. It is important that you represent yourself in a positive way because you never know who may be looking.

Did You Know? Many potential employers check social media after you apply for a job Look for inappropriate behavior and content such as posts, pictures and even likes As a manager, I DO Many employers monitor social media even after you’ve been hired You CAN be fired for social media posts, pictures, etc.

FIRED! This New England Patriots cheerleader was fired when a picture of her holding a sharpie over a passed out party goer surfaced on Facebook.

SACKED! This waitress took to Facebook to complain about her patrons not leaving a tip, even mentioning the name of her workplace. She was terminated for “disparaging” her customers.

RESIGNED! This woman was given the choice of resigning or suffering suspension from her teaching job for a social media picture showing her holding two alcoholic beverages. She chose to resign.

TERMINATED! This teacher was fired from her job for having "I am teaching in the most ghetto school in Charlotte“ as About Me.

SEE YA! Kimberly Swann was terminated for posting the following comments on her Facebook page regarding her job: “first day at work. omg!! So dull!!” “all i do is shred holepunch n scan paper!!! omg!” “im so totally bored!!!”

BUH BYE! Kevin Colvin requested time off from his job to attend a family emergency. After posting pictures of himself at a party, during the time he requested off, he was let go.

CANNED! Flight attendants for Virgin Airlines were fired after posting insulting comments about their passengers and commenting on a cockroach infestation in the cabins on Facebook.

Twitter Terminations

NOT HIRED! Connor Riley tweeted disparaging remarks about a potential employer including “hating the work”. A current employee saw it and passed it along to the hiring manager. What do you think didn’t happen?

LATER! Nicole Crowther was a recurring extra on Glee until she tweeted some plot spoilers she had heard on set. The producer also fired her over Twitter.
