 New teams today based on your multiple intelligence!  Get out your new spiral notebook (or if you can use your old one, you can rip out the pages, staple them, & hang on to them for the end of course exam.  Open to the first page and label this “A.” This will be your Title Page. ◦ Include your name, Dr. Landrum, and the period ◦ Decorate!  On the backside of this page will be “B” with the evaluations attached.

 The next page (right) is labeled “C.” This is where you will glue the Set-up for Student Notebook  The backside of this page is labeled “D.” This is where you will attach the 9-week syllabus.  The next page is your Table of Contents Assignment # AssignmentDate

 Review  Attach in the notebook on page “D.”  Have your parents me or write me a letter for a homework pass.

 Quiz/Quiz Trade ◦ Students will memorize the definition to their word on the index card. When the music plays, the students will walk around and find a partner when it stops. After instructions for which partner goes first (someone with the most pets), students will take turn quizzing each other on the word. Students will then switch cards, memorizing the new answer.  Pictionary/Charades ◦ Students will come up with their group and act out or draw one of their terms for the class to guess.

 Open your interactive notebook and Title page 1 “3 Progressive Presidents.” Update your table of contents.  Examine the political cartoon on the opening page of Chapter 18. Then, answer these questions on the left side of your notebook: 1.What are the 3 most important details you see? 2.What do the lions represent? 3.This cartoon is titled, “The Lion Tamer.” The lion tamer is President Theodore Roosevelt. Based on the cartoon, what might his personality be like? 4.Does this cartoonist seem to believe that President Roosevelt will be able to control the trusts? 5.Based on the cartoon, how might the federal government’s power over trusts have changed during Roosevelt’s presidency?

 The room will be divided into 2 teams  Each team will stand up and form a line.  The team members will take turns writing one fact learned from this section on the flip chart, and then return to the back of the line.  The group will be timed. When the time is called, everyone will go back to their seats and the lists will be read to determine the winning team.

Take some time to review the notes from yesterday, finishing anything you may have missed. Make sure you know your presidents, and as a group, decide which president you want to represent.

 Which progressive president deserves the most credit for promoting progressive goals in national politics? ◦ Round 1: Addressing the Effects of Industrialization (18:3) ◦ Round 2: Reforming the National Government (18:4)  As a group, know how your president addressed these issues, and come up with 5 questions that you can ask the other presidents during the debate.

 One student will become the president by standing with the mask over his/her face.  Each “president” will begin by explaining what his administration did to promote progressive goals related to the debate topic.  Presidents will then pose and respond to questions as they debate who deserves the most credit for promoting progressive goals related to the topic.  Class Discussion: Which progressive president deserves the most credit for promoting progressive goals in national politics?

 If there is time, vocabulary will be reviewed for Chapter 19

 REVIEW ◦ Rally Coach  Students will compete to see who which team can guess the vocabulary words the quickest, as one partner is looking at the words and coaching, and the other is standing with his/her back to the words. ◦ Vocabulary Categories  At your group, organize all the vocabulary words into categories of your choice.
