1 STRICTLY PRIVATE & CONFIDENTIAL. NOT FOR DISTRIBUTION, INTERNAL USE ONLY Creating Value through Strategic Execution Aviva Underwriting Apprentice Programme 2015

2 STRICTLY PRIVATE & CONFIDENTIAL. NOT FOR DISTRIBUTION, INTERNAL USE ONLY Creating Value through Strategic Execution Why Do an Apprenticeship? A credible alternative for those considering alternatives to university. I would not see it as not going to uni, but having a 3 year head start on a graduate. A real job from day one. Apprenticeships are a massive focus for the government and opposition parties at the moment. Get paid to study towards the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) exams. Giving you a passport to a future career as a manager or technical specialist Support every step of the way to help you make successful career in insurance 2

About the Programme An industry recognised professional qualification Long term prospects with one of the world’s biggest insurance groups. Your own mentor, buddy and coach to help you learn on the job A starting salary of £15,200 which will rise year on year as you complete your exams. In fact, you could be earning a salary in line with someone joining on the graduate scheme. A joining bonus of £500 A thoroughly structured induction that will help you kick-start your career with Aviva and introduce you to your fellow apprentices. Responsibility for driving your own career progression plus excellent long-term prospects with a brand name that’s known all over the world. 3

What are we looking for? We are looking for future leaders of our business We need ambitious people wanting to build a long-term career in financial services through technical development and professional qualifications. Are you ready to be customer focused and see how Aviva help change people’s lives and makes a difference by being there when our customers need us most? What you’ll need: A strong academic record and an aptitude for learning are vital. For our underwriting programme you must have, or expect, a minimum of 300 UCAS points (3 A-Levels at Grade B). We are after people who are ready to embrace our principles and fit our organisational culture. 4

What is underwriting? Insurance works because the premiums of the many pay for the losses a few. This is know as the pooling of risk. An underwriters job is to assess the likelihood of a loss occurring and decide if we are willing to expose Aviva too this risk and at what price. As a company, we assess risks on almost everything from your car or home, right up to iconic buildings such as the Gherkin, Canary Wharf and SS Great Britain. Each has its own set of risks. It’s our underwriters’ job to understand exactly what they are and if we want to accept them in exchange for the customer’s premium 5

What else will I be doing ? In conjunction with your technical development in the office there are plenty of opportunities to meet other apprentices from across the business. During your first week there will be a welcome event for all the new entrants in either our York or London offices. Each year we hold a networking event for all the apprentices and graduates giving them a chance to meet colleagues from across the life and general insurance business and meet senior figures from across the insurance industry. Our apprentices and graduates take part in a charity challenge. This year we raised over £6,000 in one month starting with one pound. Apprentices have to opportunity to get seconded on to projects. One of our current apprentices is currently working the biggest, most ambitious and expensive projects Aviva has ever undertaken. 6

An Apprentice’s perspective: ‘I have been an Apprentice Insurance Underwriter coming up to three years now and I can safely say I have chosen the correct career path. Working in insurance as an underwriter is a job where everyday brings another challenge and you’re forever learning which keeps the job interesting both in house and the financial market we are a part of. Part of my role includes dealing with brokers, people’s businesses and getting involved in different projects that are always available as Aviva is the largest insurer in the UK and have to maintain that standard. I have also had my qualifications paid for me, started off with a really good pay that progresses year by year and some of the apprentice events I have been on has been eye opening. Why wouldn’t you want to work for one of the biggest companies not just in the UK but the world?’ Ashley Bamford – Commercial Trading Underwriter 3 rd year apprentice 7

Aviva’s Values Purpose: WE FREE PEOPLE FROM FEAR OF UNCERTAINTY Care More: At Aviva, we care like crazy about our customers, each other, and the communities we operate in. Never Rest: We are driven every single day to be edgy, to think bigger and do better for our customers and each other. Kill Complexity: We are obsessed with making things simpler for our customers and each other – we manage complexity so our customers don’t have to. Create Legacy: We strive to create a future for our customers and each other, which every bit as bright and sustainable as others created before. 8

The Process Step 1 – Apply Online Step 2 – Application Review Step 3 – Online aptitude tests and Video Interview Step 4 – Assessment Centre Step 5 – Offer Step 6 – Pre-employment screening Step 7 – Induction 9

Hints and Tips Be yourself Tell us what makes you different to other candidates Take the initiative when presented with an opportunity but don’t dominate Try and think some examples of when you have displayed the values that Aviva stands for. There are no trick questions we want you to succeed, no one is trying to trip you up. We understand that you may be nervous and for many of you this will be your first interview. We are not looking for perfection!! This is a two way process we want to know if your right for Aviva but also if Aviva is right for you, so don’t be afraid to ask questions of the assessor. Good Luck 10
