Questionnaire about eating and consuming habits (Finland) Response time of the survey 5.10. – 10.10.2013. 45 people answered the survey (15 students, 15 teachers, 15 parents) (36 females, 9 males)

Eating habits

Many of survey respondents eat with their family every day, because it is part of eating culture in Finland and eating alone is boring.

The majority of survey respondents eat breakfast, lunch and dinner every day because we live in a cold area and need energy and of course Finnish people like eating good food.

The majority of survey respondents eat often whole-grain bread, because it is healthy and tastes good.

Most of respondents eats often rice, potatoes and pasta foods because Finnish people are used to eat that kind of food (especially potatoes) and it is also good food.

Vegetables are eaten daily because they are healthy. Fruit or berries are eaten daily because they taste delicious and of course they are healthy.

Oil and margarine are preferred because they are healthy Oil and margarine are preferred because they are healthy. In recent years, Finns have increased their use of butter.

Something else: cocoa, mineral water, sparkling water The majority of survey respondents drinks water when they are thirsty because water is clean and healthy. Some drink milk because it is common to drink milk and it is good for your bones.

Many of survey respondents drinks coffee or tea daily because they like it or they are coffee or tea addicts.

The majority of survey respondents don’t drink energy drinks and those who drink probably believe that it helps them when they are tired.

It is good that candy or chocolate are not eaten every day and those who eat them few times a month probably have candy day for exampel once a week.

Consuming habits

The majority of survey respondents don’t throw food away or they do it seldom propably because food is very expensive in Finland. Those who throw food away likely don’t know what to do with the leftovers.

To six person price is the only factor which affect on buying things. For the majority of survey respondents price and quality affect the most on buying decision. When you buy something expensive and good quality you can use it for a long time.

Most of the respondents spend a bit of money on music, soft drinks and fastfood. That kind of things are part of the life style nowadays. Majority of the respondents spend less than 50 euros in a month on health and beauty, clothes and electronics. Some use over 50 euros in a month on hobbies and clothes.

Majority doesn’t buy products from online stores Majority doesn’t buy products from online stores. Those who buy products from online stores mainly buy clothes, electronics, music or books. The least from online stores are bought movies, shoes and tickets.
