3 PURPOSES OF RESEARCH

Exploration Social Scientific Research 1. Satisfy curiosity 2. Test Feasibility 3. Develop reasons for further study

Description This includes situations and events that answer the what, where, when and how. For Example Anthropology

Explanation Research that provides answers that explain “why”

Which type of research describes your work in the following courses: English Social Studies Science

Identify the type of research ____________ utilizes : Urban Planning Marketing Health Sciences * Provide support for your choices/ arguments * Students answers may vary

D.A.T.A. DESIGN ASK TRACK ANNOUNCE

D.A.T.A. - DESIGN What do you want to know or understand? What is to be evaluated and why? What are the possible barriers connected to this research? How does your question align with the course material and unit objectives? What is your question?

D.A.T.A. - ASK What information or data will be needed to answer the questions? Does the data already exist? What collection procedures will you follow? Do you need to create data- collection instruments? What is your timeline for planning, data collection, making sense of the data and sharing it?

D.A.T.A. - TRACK What can you learn form the data? How will you collate the data to make them useful? How can you organize the data so you can answer your questions and others can understand the results? How will you present your findings? (charts, tables, graphs)

D.A.T.A. - ANNOUNCE What do these results mean? What are the recommendations? What are the implications? How will you use your findings? How will you present your findings and recommendations?
