“Re – Inventing Schools through Effective Administration & Supervision” By: JESUSA B. FELIPE

What’s SM?

School mismanagement fever A dis - organized school is requesting help, because she's seeking a cure for a School Mismanagement Fever.

> it has an inadequate number of teachers; the pupil drop-out rate is high; the results in public examinations are poor; the buildings, equipment and materials are inadequate and poorly maintained; the grounds are untidy and the morale of those connected with the school is not high.

Communication is an essential part of management.

We got the power!!!

AN ATTITUDE COMPOUNDS WHEN EXPOSE TO OTHERS

WHY? Because the best attitude influence others.

“You’ve got to have a great athlete to win You can’t win without good athletes but you can loose with them”

We can make a Difference!!!

ATTITUDE AXIOM (a statement thought to be clearly true) OUR ATTITUDE DETERMINES OUR… APPROACH TO LIFE -people sometimes are waiting for others, on the world, to change instead of realizing that they are responsible for their own behaviour.

A.S.K.

Your role as manager of an organization, which exists to provide the pupils with useful knowledge, skills and attitudes for responsible and successful living. To be a successful head you will need to acquire managerial Attitudes = A, Skills = S and Knowledge = K for running your school.

Thus school managers who are seeking to find a cure for School Mismanagement Fever must recognise the need to ASK, that is, to involve others in developing solutions, but must also recognise the three key components: Attitudes, Skills and Knowledge, which they need to acquire. May be your S.M. Fever can be traced to a specific managerial issue which interferes with the processes of instruction and learning in the school, but, more likely, there are very many issues about which you are concerned. The successful school head is someone who is able to handle a range of problems or issues, at one time.

School management diagnosis checklist

If your 'Yes' scores exceed 15/20, then your School Mismanagement Fever is not life threatening! However, if your 'No' scores exceed 10/20, then your School Mismanagement Fever requires your serious attention.

PERSONALITY- WHO I AM? All people are born distinctly individuals. Even two children with the same parents are totally different from each other.

OUR ATTITUDE AT THE BEGINNING OF A TASK WILL AFFECT ITS OUTCOME MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE.

ATTITUDE DETERMINES SUCCESS OR FAILURE

OUR ATTITUDE CAN TURN OUR PROBLEMS INTO BLESSING “What is the difference between an obstacle and an opportunity?” Every opportunity has a difficulty and every difficulty has an opportunity Kites rise against wind without wind it could not fly high. But to fly it needs controlling string. It is our positive attitude that makes us fly high towards our goal. Consider success through a positive attitude.

OUR ATTITUDE CAN GIVE US AN UNCOMMONLY POSITIVE PERSPECTIVE An uncommonly positive perspective is able to help accomplish some uncommon goals. Walk to the every edge of your potential and the potential of your goals before accepting defeat. It is all in your attitude.

2. ENVIRONMENT- WHAT’S AROUND ME? - Environment of early childhood develops a person’s “belief system”. - Environment is the first influence of our belief system. - Environment becomes even more significant when we realize that the beginning attitude are the most difficult to change.

WORD EXPRESSION – WHAT I HEAR? Turn negative things into positive !

SELF-IMAGE – HOW I SEE MY SELF Beyond the boundaries that stake out our true feelings about ourselves Ourselves reflects how other see us Self-image sets the parameters for the construction of our attitude.

EXPOSURE TO NEW EXPERIENCES- OPPORTUNITIES FOR GROWTH There are numbers of opportunities waiting a head. All we need is to decide to take a risk and act on them. Experiences provide more opportunity for growth

ASSOCIATION WITH PEERS - WHO INFLUENCE ME Most of our actions somehow influence by people around us, how we believe in them, somehow build attitude in us.

The key to having an effective administration and supervision is the willingness to start a change.

If you want to have a school with effective administration and supervision, then make the following choices: 1. EVALUATE YOUR PRESENT POSITION 2. REALIZE THAT FAITH IS STRONGER THAN FEAR 3. WRITE A STATEMENT OF PURPOSE 4. HAVE THE DESIRE TO CHANGE 5. LEAVE ONE DAY AT A TIME 6. CHANGE YOUR THOUGHT PATTERN 7. DEVELOP GOOD HABITS 8. CONTINUALLY CHOOSE TO HAVE A RIGHT ATTITUDE

As a head, you are expected to manage the school through your own work, the work of other teachers, staff and even pupils. You may have heard of sayings like 'Many heads are better than one', 'Many hands make a load lighter', etc. and certainly as a manager of a school you cannot achieve your goals and objectives if you do all the tasks alone. In other words, you cannot teach all the subjects in the school, head all the departments, be on duty every day of the week, deal with all the correspondence and discipline cases, be in charge of all the clubs and so on. You will need to use the talents of the teachers who work under you, not fearing that they will take over from you, but rather trusting them and having confidence in them. Moreover, making use of even the most critical or unco-operative members of your staff may result in their trusting you and feeling more motivated and needed. By doing the above you will actually be delegating responsibilities and duties to your teachers, and in this unit we will explore further the delegation process, considering its importance and the barriers to its effectiveness.

We are either the master or the victims of our choices We are either the master or the victims of our choices. It is a matter of personal choice. Who we are today is the result of choices we made yesterday. Tomorrow we will become what we choose today. To change means to choose to change.

SEVEN ABILITIES NEEDED TO FAILED FORWARD 1. REJECTION 2. FAILURE 3. ISOLATE INCEDENT 4. KEEP EXPECTATION REALISTIC 5. FOCUS ON STRENGHTS 6. VARY APPROACHES 7. BOUNCE BACK

Many of us picture success as looking like someone other than who we are. If you tried to become just like one of them you wouldn’t be successful. You just eliminating the possibility of becoming the person you were meant to be.

COMMON MISCONCEPTION ABOUT SUCCESS: 1. WEALTH - does not eliminate problems 2. SPECIAL FEELING - if happiness is your goal you are almost destined to failed 3. POSSESSION - it doesn’t attain success or measured that way POWER - it is not the source of security or success they are powerful persons does eventually lose power. 5. ACHIEVEMENT - does not guarantee that you are successful

GROWING TO YOUR POTENTIAL 1. Concentrate on one main goal 2. Continual improvement 3. Forget the past 4. Focus on the future

“success…knowing your purpose in life, growing to reach your maximum potential, and sowing seeds that benefits other”.
