How to Rock the Chairman’s Award By: The Killer Bees

Essay Know your limits!  You wouldn’t build a robot with parts you don’t have, so don’t write an essay using information you don’t have  Don’t copy other teams– basically be yourself and do it well Start small  Improve your school and community first– then change the world Don’t let writer’s block stop you  Try writing out everything you want to include then try to piece the puzzle together  Don’t worry about writing it all at once– take your time to make it the best you can  Edit, edit, edit!

Executive Summary We wrote it after  Write it when it works for you Don’t stress out!  Don’t worry about filling answers in– instead talk about what you plan to do to complete that goal  It’s a great way to track your team’s improvement as you are able to fill in more and more questions Be yourself!  Be honest about what you’ve accomplished and back it up with proof

Presentation Be conversational yet professional with the judges Expand on the major points you made in your essay and executive summary  But also use the presentation to include any information you didn’t fit into your essay or executive summary  Be sure to talk about how your past has influenced you and how you are going to go forth into the future Don’t exclude teammates  The builders need to know just as much info as the PR and outreach members Play off of your presenter’s strengths  If one student knows a specific subject on a more personal level, make sure he/she gets to talk about it in the presentation or in the Q & A

Presentation Continued… Time Limit  5 minute presentation  5 minute Q & A  If you have a prop, make sure it can be set up within the time limit and can fit through the door! Be professional  Show your gracious professionalism– Don’t talk over your fellow presenters Be prepared for anything!  They can and will ask you to elaborate on essay and executive summary answers Polish your presentation skills  Cut out filler words and fidgeting

Video DO NOT show the video in the presentation  The judges want to know about YOU Be creative, but don’t go too far  Put in good information in a fun way  Don’t stress! Show the fun side of your team Final tip  Do Dean’s homework– it’s a good checkpoint for your team’s progress

That’s all, folks! In short… Be yourself– show what you’re made of! Don’t stress out– you CAN do this!
