Potential Energy  Kinetic Energy  Electricity

Energy Resource Use

Electricity is a secondary energy Where does it come from? Potential energy stored in the fuel (oil, gas, coal) is converted to kinetic energy which is used within a turbine to create electric current.

Electricity = secondary energy source

Basics behind electricity generators Energy source is ignited to create heat (thermal energy) which is used to boil water. Steam from the water rises and turns a turbine (kinetic energy) which is connected to a wire near magnets to excite electrons to create an electrical current.

How does this electricity get to us? High voltage to travel great distances to decrease energy loss Aluminum used in overhead wires due to cost and weight. Copper used in homes due to increased ability to conduct
