This is for a 12 th Grade Government Class

Rationale… This presentation serves to provide examples of various web-based activities that can be used to satisfy instruction along the Ohio Department of Education Social Studies Model.

Goals & Objectives Goals Increase student learning across the ODE Social Studies model. Stimulate student interest in the material through technology. Objectives Students will identify connections between material learned in class & real world issues. Increased comprehension of materials following ODE model.

American Heritage Activities While visiting the Ohio Historical Society’s website research a historical location in the Miami Valley and write a report on it. Visit it & receive extra credit! Read Anne Bradstreet’s essay on “New” and “Old” England. Cite examples of foreshadowing & predicting the American Revolution. Visit the Immigration Research Center & examine your family history. Look at photos from the Military History website and examine the photos from different conflicts to cite similarities & differences.

People in Societies Activities Visit the Islamic Academy site and research cultural differences and similarities. Create a mask for the Mexican Day of the Dead celebration. Examine the issue of offensive mascot nicknames. Write an opinion paper. Read one of the articles from Cultural Survival and report how cultures are being protected. Conclusion…

This presentations consists of many very useful websites. When teaching to the strands you need to have all kinds of activities, and that is what I tried to do. These websites and activities will definitely be useful to me as I develop my own lessons and activities for students.
