Project Overview The goal of this project is to provide an accurate means of distributing prescription drugs to patients. This is to aid patients with memory problems and patients with drug abuse problems. The device distributes various tablets based on a time schedule. The schedule can be customized via a PC. The dispenser is responsible for delivering a precise number of tablets from storage banks to a receptacle. Each tablet is held in a magazine. An actuator is used to push single tablets from the magazine. There are 4 magazines. The LCD screen is used to display data from the device. Using two buttons next to the screen, the user can scroll between the current time, time of next distribution, and remaining tablets in each bank. The modem/Ethernet adapter will make a connection to a pharmacy and renew a subscription when it is low. The microcontroller handles the controls signals for the control system of the dispenser, manages the data for the LCD display, interfaces to the modem/Ethernet adapter for external data transfers. Prescriptions and times of distribution can be uploaded to the device through the serial communications port. An application running on a PC will manage this data. The goal of this project is to provide an accurate means of distributing prescription drugs to patients.
