L ETTERS OF R ECOMMENDATION Plan Ahead – Determine if college/scholarship requires one Consider asking people who know you in various capacities Provide writer  3 week window for writer to write letter  If counselor is writing a recommendation, make appointment for interview 3 weeks prior to deadline  Provide activities checklist (resume) to the writer  Provide writer pertinent information about college/scholarship  Be respectful of writers timeline Follow-up with a thank you to individual who wrote recommendation(s)
