COLLEGE

So what do you know about College ? True or False ? There are more colleges than universities within a one hour drive of SMK Colleges offer 4 year degree programs much like university Colleges offer a wider variety of job specific programs than university There are many ways to “move” between colleges and universities.

Why Select College? Certain occupations require it e.g. Paramedic, Dental Hygienist, ECE. Family or peer pressure Personal goal Other possible reasons…..

College’s Focus College studies tend to be fairly hands- on and practical Studies involve a lot of doing Teaches you specific skills and applications of these skills to specific types of occupations More occupation based than University.

Admission requirements C, U or M courses are considered Grade 11 C, M or U courses are used for early admission purposes, and in some case for final offers Final offers of admission my be based on the average of 2 to 6, grade 11 or 12 C, U or M courses, one of which must be ENG4C or 4U. Averages vary depending on the program and school– generally 60% is the minimum, most are higher

Admission requirements Cont’d “Science” programs such as Paramedic, Veterinary technician, Nursing, etc require ENG4C/U + grade 11/12 C or U sciences +grade 12 C or U math. “Business” programs usually require ENG4C/U + grade 12 C/U Math

Types of Programs When you enter from HS you are an undergraduate Colleges offer a wide variety of programs including certificates, diplomas and degrees Also have joint/collaborative programs with universities, require U/M courses Program length varies from 1 to 4 years
