Section 2-2 Review: “Composition of Air and Air Pollution”

***Rules*** 1.) Teacher will pick two students, one man and one woman. 2.) Each player will pick their given team. 3.) The Man’s group will be on the left side of the classroom and the woman’s on the right side. 4.) Teacher will flip a coin, and the woman will call heads or tails. GAMEPLAY 1.) The team will choose if they want to play for a 1 point, 2 point, or a 3 point shot. 2.) A student will be called for a question, The student will go up to the basketball hoop and stand underneath the hoop 3.) The Teacher will read off the question, and the student will answer within 30 seconds. 4.) If the student gets the question right, they may shoot the basketball. If they get the question wrong, the team has a chance to steal he question from the other team. 5.) The team stealing the question can only be answered by the next person that is next to answer the question!

Question 1 (1 point) _____________________ is the introduction of chemical matter or other chemical materials into the atmosphere that can bring harm or discomfort to humans or other living organisms and cause damage to the environment?

Question 2 (2 points) A substance in the air that can cause harm to humans and the environment is known as an ______________________________?

Question 3 (3 points) Air pollutants can come from __________________ and ______________________ processes. The atmosphere is in a constant state of flux as both of these processes alter its atmospheric composition?

Question 4 (2 points) What is an example of a natural processes that releases aerosols and particulate matter in the atmosphere?

Question 5 (2 points) What is an example of an unnatural process that releases aerosols and particulate matter into Earth’s atmosphere?

Question 6 (1 point) Air pollutants are also added to the atmosphere by ________________ activities, which can consist of: factories, power plants, automobile exhaust, burning of fire wood (coal)?

Question 7 (1 point) _________________________ refineries are a major source of gaseous pollutants like sulfur dioxides and nitrogen dioxides which can cause respiratory illness in organisms?

Question 8 (3 points) The burning of ________________ releases greenhouse gases including carbon dioxide?

Question 9 (2 points) Burning fossil fuels also causes the formation of ozone near Earth’s surface, a component of _________________?

Question 10 (3 points) Other chemicals, such as sulfur from burning coal and nitrogen compounds from industrial burning and car emissions, readily combine with water vapor in the atmosphere to create sulfuric and nitric ___________________?

Question 11 (2 points) __________________________ cause the destruction of beneficial atmospheric ozone in the stratosphere?

Question 12 (3 points) ___________________ is another word for how humans release or burn fossil fuels into the Earth’s atmosphere?

Question 13 (2 points) the degree to which the ambient air is pollution-free, assessed by measuring a number of indicators of pollution is called __________________?

Question 14 (1 point) A brown haze formed when secondary pollutants interact with sunlight is called _______________________?

Question 15 (1 point) rain, snow, fog, and other forms of precipitation with a pH below 5.6 that can harm plant and animal life and is formed when sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides combine with moisture in the atmosphere is called __________________________________?

Question 16 (1 point) _____________________________ are fuels formed by natural processes such as buried organic decaying matter. When Human’s burn ____________________, gases such as: Carbon Dioxide, Water Vapor, Methane, Sulfur Dioxide, Nitrogen Oxide, ground level Ozone, ect?

Question 17 (3 points) *The effects of added particulate matter and aerosols can cause increased _______________, changes in weather, and respiration problems for living things?*

Question 18 (2 points) _______________, _______________, and ________________ are the leading participants in air pollution? (Countries?)

Question 19 (3 points) Air composition is constantly changing due to the increase in mixtures of gases including __________ oxides, ___________ oxides, ____________ dioxide, _____________ monoxide, smoke, and ___________________ matter?

Question 20 (2 points) Ground level ______________ is increasing in Urban area’s creating smog during hot summer days? The added effects of cold weather and high pressure aid in the build up of this poisonous gas?

Question 21 (1 point) Global Climate Change is increasing due to the emissions of ___________________?

Question 22 (3 points) Links to __________________ problems, global warming, and changes in weather patterns are attributed to changes in atmospheric composition.

Question 23 (3 points) ____________ effects will be affected in different countries due to pollution within the atmosphere? Due to this, many animal and plant life may become extinct?

Question 24 (1 point) _____________________ Was a severe air-pollution event that affected London during the winter of 1952.

Question 25 (3 points) __________________ Illnesses including bronchitis and asthma are the main issues with concerns to human health due to higher concentrations of air pollution?

Question 26 (2 points) Many different ________________are affected by the emissions of fossil fuels? ______________________ are a biological community of interacting organisms and their physical environment?

Question 27 (3 points) *Meteorologists can monitor how much _________, ___________, ______________, and any other compound/mixture of gases that is occurring in the atmosphere?*
