 Clear, consistent, rigorous standards in English language arts/literacy and mathematics;  Define the knowledge and skills students need for college and career success;  Developed voluntarily and cooperatively by states with input from teachers and college faculty;  Forty-five states, the District of Columbia, four territories, and the Department of Defense Education Activity have adopted the Common Core State Standards. Students will develop the knowledge and skills they need to be successful.  S: Same. Expectations are the same for students across most states, so they don’t lose ground when they move from one state to another.
