World Music Unit We will start the year with World Music and Drumming in all classes! Mrs. Mohr Briarwood Music Teacher

What will we learn about?  Different countries and their culture  How to play percussion instruments  How to do different dances from other countries  How to sing in other languages  How to respect our instruments and classroom  How to be better musicians! 2

Drum and Percussion Guidelines  Play only when it is time, never when someone is speaking  Keep our drums in good condition, don’t touch them unless it is time to play  Never pick at the sides of drums  Set instruments down carefully  Be excited to learn new things! 3

How to we carry the drums? Please use two hands when carrying the tubanos, move carefully, don’t bump into each other. Make sure the drums get back to their correct spot on the shelves. 4

What happens if I don’t follow the guidelines?  Students will get one warning if they are not following the World Music guidelines  If a student is make more bad choices, or not being a part of the team, they will be asked to sit out for a bit  If the student is still not being respectful of the guidelines, they will go and visit with Mr. Terry. 5

How will we start/end class? At the start of each class…  K-2 sings gathers on red carpet with Mrs. Mohr to sing welcome songs  3-5 completes their “Music Mind Bender” warm-up with mind cards At the end of each class…  Line up quietly at the music exit door when you hear the song of the month (What a Wonderful World by Raffi, September) 6

Class Jobs- We will change each month… 1. Spy- this person watches class and decides how many points we get at the end 2. Gofer- these people pass out and collect paper, other materials 3. M&M card keepers- these people pass out Music Mind Bender Cards 4. Vocab Keeper- this person posts our new vocab on the wall at the end of class 7
