Personal Investigation Process A Process not a project

Essential Questions  Questions which touch our hearts and souls. They are central to our lives and help to define what it means to be human.  What does it mean to be a good friend?  What kind of friend shall I be?  Who will I include in my circle of friends?  How shall I treat my friends?  How do I cope with the loss of a friend?  What can I learn about friends and friendships from books I read?  How can I be a better friend?

Essential Questions  Essential Questions probe the deepest issues confronting us... complex and baffling matters which elude simple answers:  How did the Universe begin?  What is life?  How are humans different from animals?  Why isn’t life fair?  How do we know what is right or wrong?  What happens when you die?  Do aliens exist?

Subsidiary questions  Questions which combine to help us build answers to our Essential Questions.  WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU DIE?  Does some part of you live after your body is dead?  Should you be scared of dying?  What do you think happens after death?  Is there any evidence of life after death?  What about people who say they can remember their past lives?  Have people always believed that there’s a life after death?

How are humans different from animals?  What if a child were brought up by apes?  What really makes humans so different?  Can animals talk at all?  What’s so good about being able to talk anyway?  Do animals have religion?  Are we really more intelligent than animals?
