ISSUE Can a state law ban someone from getting an abortion? Bellisario Fall 2012 Government 2nd Period Rubric

HOW DID THE COURT RULE? The court ruled 7-2 in favor of Roe. Justice Harry Blackmun wrote the decision stating that Texas law violated Jane Roe's constitutional right to privacy. Bellisario Fall 2012 Government 2nd Period Rubric

WHAT IS THE LEGACY OF THE RULING? According to CNN, “Public opinion on abortion has remained remarkably stable over the years. A CNN/Opinion Research survey in October found 36 percent of Americans think abortion should be legal in most or all circumstances, 40 percent believe it should be available in a few circumstances, such as to save the mother's life, and 22 percent say abortion should never be legal. That is almost unchanged in the past 15 years.” (CNN, 2008) Bellisario Fall 2012 Government 2nd Period Rubric
