Presentation transcript:

Amerigo Vespucci By Richard Griffith and Luke Mccloskey

Who was he? He was an explorer that was born in Florence, Italy on March 9 th, him and his family were close friends with the famous and at the time, ruling medici family. He gained interest in exploration and traveling for the first time when his uncle gave him his first job which was to go onto a diplomatic mission to Paris. From there his interest began.

Why explore? Amerigo decided to begin his life of exploration due to his desire for fortune and fame as many other explorers of the time desired. With a struggling business and word of King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella giving loans to explorers that travel for new lands, he decided that his best chance for the fame and fortune was to go exploring before it was too late.

Route taken On his most famous voyage, which was his 3 rd, he traveled to and discovered Present day Brazil or more specifically, Rio de Janero and Rio de plata. Due to the fact that this was his third trip into South America, he continued using the same route that he found so successful in his previous voyages. He would go below the Equator and then cross the Atlantic until he got to South America.

Finances of the trip Even though he had a struggling business, it was still a business which did contribute to some funds for the voyages but his main financers were his close friends of the Medici family who were very wealthy and King Ferdinand who gave loans to explorers to continue searches of new lands and resources. Both of these contributors made this trip possible for him because without them he probably wouldn’t have been able to go on his voyages

Importance of the Voyage The trip that Amerigo Vespucci took were very important because according to some records, he was the first man to travel to South America and discover that new land. Without him, we might have not found Brazil or Venezuela for years and maybe decades later. He was the discoverer of both Rio de Plata and Rio de Janero.
