The History of the Microscope

The Eyepiece/ Ocular Contains Lenses

Base Supports weight of microscope

Mirror Reflects light upward through diaphragm and hole in stage

Stage Supports slide over hole that admits light from mirror below.

Arm Supports the body tube and course adjustment.

Fine Adjustment Permits exact focusing

Coarse Adjustment Move body tube up and down, approximately to the correct distance from the specimen.

Body Tube/ Nosepiece Holds lenses of ocular and objective at the proper distance form each other.

Stage Clips Holds specimen slide in place.

Objective Lenses Lenses of different magnifications. The longer ones are the higher power and the shorter ones are lower in power.

Diaphragm Regulates the amount of light passing through the specimen.
