Children In World War Two and Evacuation By Jessica

What was evacuation? Evacuation was when a child was sent from the city to the countryside and looked after by another family. When children were evacuated they would take with them: Label Gasmask Box Gasmask Special belongings

What was it like for people who were evacuated? When children were evacuated, for some of them it was the best time of their lives but others they had a miserable time. Some of them would be evacuated with their brother or sister, some wouldn’t and they were often with people they had not even seen before.

When did the war end? The war ended in 1945 on VE day (Victory in Europe). Everyone surrendered because the allies had more guns and more protection and they were winning. People knew that they could not beat them when they fought against them.

Casualties of the war In WW1 and WW2 hundreds of thousands of people were killed and only a few survived. Today there are only a few who are still alive! Half a million French people died and about five million Jews were also killed. There were also lots of people killed from Britain.

Games Children Played

Quiz What things would children bring with them when they were evacuated? What did they call it when the war ended? Where would they get evacuated to if they lived in the city? Did children like it when they were evacuated?
