Welcome Parents! Open House

Responsive Classroom Morning Meeting: a time for students to get to know each other Hopes and Dreams: each student set a goal Classroom Rules: we work together to create these Practice: we talk about what each rule looks like/sounds like so students know what the rules mean Logical/Natural Consequences: once rules have been practiced, and students have been reminded, sometimes consequences have to follow Teacher Language: our teacher language shows that we believe that students can and will make the right choices; it tells them we see and notice what they do (“I see…I notice…Show me..”

Child Development This year…focus on: –Responsibility: Homework is your child’s responsibility…help them establish a time and a place to do their homework each day. Try not to run up to school to deliver things they forgot…it will help them remember next time

Child Development –Organization: Try to help them set up a desk/study area Homework should be no more than 30 min Leave it up to them, but check up on them They will get very messy this year…it’s part of their development…encourage “Neat or Repeat”

Language Arts We are using Ready Reading for reading as well as supplemental trade books. The program includes reading comprehension, reading fluency, vocabulary, oral language skills, and listening skills. The writing process is followed and will include the completion of narratives, persuasive and expository writing this year. Students will also be working on vocabulary and spelling throughout the Language Arts block.

Math Envisions We will be using certain aspects of Math Envisions. We will supplement Math Envisions to meet the needs of your children and the common core. We will be switching for math with other 3 rd grade teachers based on pre-test scores from each concept. These groups are fluid and change with each topic.
