Example of doubles and halves of multiples of 5 to 1000: What is half of 545? 1/2 of 500 = 250 1/2 of 5 = 2 ½ So half of 545 must be 272½ or /2.

Shuffle the cards and place in a pile with the numbers facing down. Sequencing 1 Shuffle the cards and place in a pile with the numbers facing down. Order the cards from 0 to 11. How fast can you do this? Time yourself. Who can do it the fastest?! 2 Digit Numbers Spread the cards out (numbers showing). Create a 2 digit numbers using the following criteria: Smaller than 20, or Between 10 and 50, or Larger than 50, etc. Make up your own criteria to follow. Addition Shuffle the cards and place in a pile with the numbers facing down. Place one card face up. Next to that card place another card face up. Add the two numbers together. Continue by turning the next 2 cards over and adding again. What strategy did you use to solve this? Is there another strategy that would have worked? What’s my number? Spread the cards out (numbers showing). Player 1 creates a number using the cards without showing the player 2. Using the clues of the remaining numbers and asking questions, player 2 guesses what the hidden number is. You can extend this activity by removing the remaining cards from view and limiting the number of questions. Sequencing 2 Shuffle the cards and place in a pile with the numbers facing down. Order the cards from 11 to 0. How fast can you do this? Time yourself. Who can do it the fastest? 3 Digit Numbers Spread the cards out (numbers showing). Create a 3 digit numbers using the following criteria: Smaller than 200, or Between 300 and 350, or Larger than 500, etc. Make up your own criteria to follow. Subtraction 1 Shuffle the cards and place in a pile with the numbers facing down. Take the top 2 cards to create a 2 digit number. Subtract: 10, or 9, or 7, etc. You can extend by using 3 digit numbers. Doubles Shuffle the cards and place in a pile with the numbers facing down. Turn the top card over and double the number. Continue to double the total. How many times can you double the original number? Turn the next card over and repeat. Go through the whole pack of number cards. Sequencing 3 Shuffle the cards and place in a pile with the numbers facing down. Order the cards in two rows. One row even numbers, one row odd numbers How fast can you do this? Time yourself. Who can do it the fastest? Subtraction 2 Shuffle the cards and place in a pile with the numbers facing down. Choose a target number that you will use to subtract from and write it on paper. Place one card face up next to the number. Subtract that number from the number on the paper. Continue by changing the target number on the paper and start again. Doubles +1 Shuffle the cards and place in a pile with the numbers facing down. Turn one over and use instant recall to find the double. Then add 1 more. Challenge Can you make a 2 digit number and then double it? Can you find a double then double it again? Can you solve a double, double, double? 2 and 3 Digit Numbers Make a 2 or 3 digit number with the cards facing up. Challenge. By changing only one number card, can you make this number: Smaller by 5 Larger by 20 Larger by 100 Make up your own criteria to follow.
